Scandinavian pine is chosen for this bunk bed because it combines the weight advantage of a softwood — making the assembled bed lighter and easier to position in the bedroom — with the tight grain density of northern-growth timber that provides structural performance comparable to mid-grade hardwoods at a lower material cost. The four corner posts are 80mm × 80mm solid pine — the largest cross-section offered in any Booststory bed design — providing the moment resistance needed to stabilize the upper bunk against lateral movement that creates the unsettling sensation of a moving bed for the child sleeping above. The upper bunk is surrounded by a full-perimeter guard rail at 25cm above the mattress surface on three sides, with the ladder-side opening conforming to EN747 standard safety requirements for maximum opening width at 300mm. The ladder is a fixed-position solid pine design at an 80-degree angle — steeper than a conventional ladder to reduce floor footprint — with five rungs at 25mm diameter fitted with anti-slip silicone rings.
