European white oak is chosen for the rocking chair because its bending characteristics allow the gradual curves of the rocker rails to be achieved through steam bending — a process that reshapes solid wood along its natural fiber direction rather than cutting across the grain — producing rocker rails that are both stronger and more visually graceful than rocker profiles cut from flat timber. The seat is formed from five solid oak slats at 30mm width with 8mm gaps between them, shaped on a slight concave curve in both the longitudinal and lateral axes to cup the seat naturally without requiring cushioning for short periods of use. The backrest consists of seven vertical slats at the same profile, fanning outward from the seat to the top rail in a gentle arc that supports the spine through its natural curvature and provides lumbar support in the lower third of the backrest. The included lumbar cushion is filled with high-resilience foam covered in a linen-blend fabric, attached to the chair back via four ties that secure the cushion firmly during rocking without marking the wood surface. The rocker rails are engineered with a mathematically calculated radius that produces a smooth, forward-biasing rocking motion — the motion that promotes the mild vestibular stimulation associated with reduced stress and improved relaxation.
